A couple of days ago, I was walking through a home in Catonsville, MD with a client. The client was intrigued by the location - being close to Ellicott City with a seemingly attractive price. Plumbing and Electrical had obviously been completed by an unlicensed person - something common among renovations. My background with renovation work could determine quickly that he work was not up to code, but for many clients, they cannot discern this. It underscores something that we always tell our clients - before purchase, conduct a structural inspection. Don't be lured in by pretty countertops and tiled showers - understand the condition of the major (and costly) systems of the house - roof, hvac, electrical, and plumbing.
